Charged by the Provost, the Faculty and Staff Travel Review (FASTR) Committee reviews proposed travel by faculty, staff, administrators, and sponsored guests to destinations that MSU has designated as extreme risk.
MSU does not support faculty, staff, administrator, and sponsored guest travel to extreme risk destinations unless a waiver is approved. FASTR reviews waiver requests submitted by prospective travelers and security assessments provided by the Office of International Health and Safety to provide mitigation guidance. FASTR then makes a recommendation to the traveler(s), Associate Provost and Dean of International Studies, and college dean (or direct supervisor for non-college units) regarding whether a waiver request should be granted. FASTR serves as a counterpart to the undergraduate and graduate student focused Risk and Security Advisory Committee (RSAC).
The FASTR committee is chaired by the Associate Provost and Dean of International Studies and Programs. Members include senior administrators responsible for research, faculty representatives, risk management personnel, and representation from the Office of the General Counsel.
All those engaging in or supporting international travel should be familiar with the FASTR process and requirements for faculty and staff travel to high risk (extreme risk and elevated risk) destinations.
